Panel: The path from IC to Engineering Manager

Panel: The path from IC to Engineering Manager

Recently, many people who work with me have reached a point where they have started considering moving into a management career path. This career change has become more and more common, and at times is not really clear how different the two careers are. For this reason, I was thrilled to join a panel on the subject together with Allis Yao and Spencer McElmurry and moderated by Brendan McCollam.

If you are interested in this career step or your first experience as a Manager in technology, you will find the info we shared in the video below very useful.

The panel discussed:

  • The most important responsibilities of an Engineering Manager
  • How to make the transition from an IC to EM smoother
  • The importance of soft skills as an EM

If you are a Technology Leader interested in helping your colleague decide between Technology and Managerial track, this article I wrote recently should be useful.

Enjoy, and as always, let me know what you think.

I wanted to thank Codility for organising the panel, especially Brendan McCollam for the excellent moderation, and Louise Dillon for a great behind-the-scenes organisation.
